September is Spay and Neuter Month!
Prevent Unwanted Litters -- Spay and Neuter Your Critters!
Did you know? Spaying female pets can help prevent uterine infections and breast cancer, while neutering males prevents testicular cancer, all of which can be fatal. In both males and females, these procedures can also help with some problematic behavioral issues (often related to mate-seeking) that are controlled by hormones. We recommend spaying and neutering at about 6 months of age, at a time when your pet is sexually mature and healthy enough for surgery.
Until the end of September, we are offering 50% off microchips as well as 20% off our pre-anesthetic blood screens for ALL pets that are getting spayed or neutered! (We'll even throw in a free nail trim!)
**You may be wondering why it would be important for us to run bloodwork on young, seemingly health pets. The doctors actually recommend a blood screening before any surgery, especially young pets who may be undergoing anesthesia for the first time! We want to check all basic organ functioning and screen for possible infection prior to anesthesia in order to rule out potential risk factors for surgery. Also, having a baseline for a healthy animal can come in handy later in life if health issues arise. If the first time we run blood work is when a pet is sick, we would not have any previous results to compare it to!
